Autism Optimism

New diagnosis? Searching for solutions? Confused by therapies and options? Our Autism Optimism workshop can help! Our workshop helps to clarify the clinical diagnosis and see both hope and solutions. We share tools to help your autistic loved one regulate their emotions and behavior.

Downriver Do-Gooders

Since Mimi’s Mission no longer accepts donations of household items, personal hygiene items, and clothes in the office, we have created a free giving group on Facebook to help Downriver residents connect to give and receive these items. This is a group about neighbors helping neighbors. Once your item is gone please remove your post. Downriver communities

Young Adults

The Young Adults Program is a new in-person group get-together for young adults on the autism spectrum. It is a group designed for members to make friends and enjoy social interactions with other autistic individuals within their age group.

If you are an autistic person between 18-35 years old and would like to meet new friends, then this is for you!

One hour of socialization to ask fun questions to potential new friends. We will provide cards/questions for you to ask.

What is the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) law? +
IDEA is a federal law that ensures children with disabilities receive special education services in public schools. It requires schools to evaluate students, create individualized plans, and provide services at no cost to families.
What is a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)? +
FAPE means your child has the legal right to an education that meets their unique needs, at no cost to you. Schools must provide services that allow meaningful progress.
What is an Individualized Education Program (IEP)? +
An IEP is a written plan for students who qualify for special education. It outlines goals, services, accommodations, and how progress will be measured. Parents are equal members of the IEP team.
What do I do if my child did not qualify for an IEP? +
You can request a written explanation, ask about a 504 Plan, or request an independent evaluation if you disagree. Even without an IEP, support options may still be available.
