Our in person Autism Acceptance Group (AAG) is currently at capacity. We will update and announce when we are accepting new members. Please request to join our Facebook group, Autism Acceptance Group, to ask questions, get answers, and meet more families around the state of Michigan. You must answer questions to gain approval for safety reasons.

As space becomes available, we will contact applicants in the order in which their forms were received, so be sure to complete the form if you are interested in joining. Space becomes available when families move out of the program service area or their children age out of the AAG program and advance to the Downriver Young Adults group. If you or the autistic individual(s) in your family are 17-30 years old, please read about our Downriver Young Adults program.

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE GROUP

The Autism Acceptance Group Mission Statement: To provide an opportunity for Downriver spectrum families to socialize and support each other.

Mimi’s Mission offers the Autism Acceptance Group, a program developed  for Downriver* autistic individuals and their families. The group meets on the first and third Monday of each month for dinner. At meetings, families are offered the unique opportunity to socialize other Downriver autistic individuals and their families. These meetings offer the autistic individuals a unique opportunity also–a chance to participate and socialize with other autistic children and adults.  Generous community members volunteer to offer free childcare for those in attendance, including siblings. The adult family members have some time to build relationships with other families who often share some of the same challenges in raising an autistic child or caring for an adult autistic family member. The parents and siblings are finding comfort in being with other people who actually understand them and live very similar lives. The autistic individuals find comfort in being with friends who are similar to them. The cost to attend a meetings is $5 per person. Meetings include pizza dinner, bottled water and dessert for active members of the Autism Acceptance Group.

Impactful meetings

The AAG meets twice monthly and families are able to play, share experiences, and enjoy a pizza dinner. Meetings are designed to facilitate dialog amongst parents and let children play in a safe environment with high school student volunteers helping engage them in activities.
